No purchase fee on TCN Eftpos gift cards at Coles

Image: Coles

Pay no purchase fee when you buy $30, $50, $100, $200 and $400 TCN Eftpos gift cards in-store Coles between 18 Jun and 24 Jun 2025.

For example, if you bought a $400 Eftpos gift card, you would pay just $400 instead of the usual price of $409.95 ($400 plus the $9.95 purchase fee).

Here are the details:

  • Runs from Wed 18 Jun to Tue 24 Jun 2025
  • Only available in-store at Coles
  • Limit of five gift cards per customer
  • Excludes Bromley and Bluey Eftpos gift cards
  • You will also earn 1x Flybuys point per dollar spent

TCN Eftpos gift cards can be used almost anywhere physical Eftpos payments are accepted. They cannot be used online or over the phone.

These no purchase fee promotions don’t seem very interesting on the surface but they do have their uses. For example, some people like to use them to more easily meet a minimum spend offer for a credit card sign up bonus.

They can also be a great way to circumvent surcharges that some businesses (e.g. ALDI) place on Visa, Mastercard and American Express card payments.

During previous TCN Eftpos offers you could even use them at Australia Post so some people bought them with a points earning credit card and then used them to pay bills. It may still be possible to do so.

    1. How is it break even? Points using your points earning credit card, eg amex, then using the eftpos card where Amex isn’t accepted. Plus 1 flybuys per $1….
Not sure how that’s breaking even

      1. Bought $2k (5x$400) to pay body corp cause if I used my own cc to pay body corp, it will charge me $32 in (1.6%) fees and only 1k in velocity points but getting these Cole’s cards, my cc gives me $1:1 velocity points as it’s a supermarket spend and then FB gives 2k base points (converted to 1k velocity) so I actually pick up $30 in value rather pay $32 in fees

    1. Aust post do take these cards for certain bills like council rates, but my CC didn’t allow me to use these cards to pay it off- it only comes up with the cash option for CC’s as far as I know

    2. no as soon as they see it is a gift card, they will reject it and sometimes give you a warning…

  2. Is it still possible to cycle the cards as long as the workers don’t notice? Buying new EFTPOS cards with old? And is the 5 limit for the whole period or daily?

I remember late last year doing this so each time you will earn 400 flybuys points but I can’t recall if I did it more than 5 times.

    1. As far as I know that’s still possible but I can’t really see it being worth the effort for such a small amount of points. There shouldn’t be a limit to how many times you can do it.

    1. Not that I’m aware of, no. TCN could offer that ability if they wanted to as they sell a digital Eftpos gift card and for some of their other products they allow you to convert from physical to digital but until they do we’re stuck with the physical cards.

  3. Does the flybuy points appear on the app immediately? Not seeing it today for my yesterday’s transaction…

    1. I do not recommend this, I did this, the self checkout at Woolies shat itself and it took the money of the eftpos card and I spent 45 minutes at Woolies trying to sort it out with the manager, definitely not worth the savings, bit put off with participating in another gift card deal now.

  4. I know that this will barely be worth it, however I am trying really hard to save up flybuys points and every single point helps, if I purchase these, will I be able to purchase the Luxury Escapes gift cards on Wednesday using these eftpos cards when that promo starts, or will it only work when buying gift cards at Woolies?

    1. I’m not aware of any restrictions on what you can purchase with these Eftpos gift cards at Coles. Of course, it’s possible that might suddenly change.
