If you buy the $50 and $100 denominations, the points you earn won’t even offset the cost of the card purchase fees:
- $50 Visa gift card ($5.95 fee) earns you 500 EDR points worth $2.50
- $100 Visa gift card ($5.95 fee) earns you 1,000 EDR points worth $5.00
Every promotion Woolworths have run on prepaid Visa, Mastercard and Eftpos gift cards this year has been similarly awful. Thankfully, Coles are still running promotions that don’t actually lose you money (e.g. last week’s Visa gift card offer).

No, not unless Woolworths have suddenly decided to relax their rules on gift card purchases.

I ended up buying 5 of these VISA cards as I need to meet a minimum spend on my new credit card by early next week. One thing I noticed at checkout, the self serve machines no longer require staff assistance when scanning 5 cards in one transaction. Only once at the end before payment did the lady scan her badge. A nice improvement to the gift card workflow – good job Woolies. Now….please return the variable load cards to these promos!
