Coles Mastercard gift cards can be spent almost anywhere Mastercard is accepted, both in-store and online.
If you bought five $100 cards, you would earn 10,525 Flybuys points (worth $52.63 or convertible to 5,000+ Velocity points) for only $25 in purchase fees.

- $5 fee on $100 card, $7 fee on $250 card
- This offer is open to everyone and does not require activation
- Points usually credit in 1-3 days
You can only buy five gift cards in total with the one Flybuys account. It’s not five per day or five of each denomination.
Both the $100 and $250 cards earn the same 2,000 bonus points so most people tend to just buy the $100 denomination since it’s cheaper. However, that also means that it sells out much faster.
Coles Mastercard gift cards no longer work on the ATO or Goverment EasyPay websites but you can apparently still use them to pay the ATO over the phone.
Warning: It’s a good idea to tear open each Mastercard after scanning it at the checkout so that you can check for signs of tampering. It’s easier to do this if you purchase each gift card separately. More information can be found here.
Also, as a general rule it’s better to spend prepaid Mastercard and Visa gift cards sooner rather than later as the longer you leave them, the higher the chance of a BIN attack (where scammers brute force card number combinations until they find ones that work).

If I purchase this with my coles mastercard, anyone knows whether it’s considered as Coles supermarket transactions so I can have triple points as well?
From experience you will earn 2 points (not 3 as you don’t earn the extra 1 point per $ on gift cards as you get bonus points) on the total of the register transaction (in addition to the 2000 bonus points as part of the Mastercard promotion)as the bank doesn’t differentiate or know what you are purchasing, it just sees that you spent say $500 at Coles in one transaction. Same with any other points earning credit card, the rewards points earned from the total value of the transaction paid with your credit card is in addition to the bonus flybuys points earned from purchasing these prepaid Mastercards.

Apparently the terms say no extra bonus points from using Cole’s rewards card to buy these.
*You will not get an extra 2,000 from Coles Plus Saver, and you almost certainly will not get another 2× (or any significant points) from a rewards credit card. Gift-card purchases are excluded from earning on virtually all Australian rewards cards (including the Coles Rewards Mastercard)*
This is Coles, you definitely get the base pts for GC purchases.

I have never heard of a gift card purchase at Coles or Woolworths being treated any differently to a regular grocery shop.
You can pay with a credit card accepted at Coles (e.g. Visa, Mastercard, AMEX).
It should be treated as a regular purchase, as Coles’ in-store purchases only reports basic information to card issuers (e.g. merchant name, location, amount spent, merchant category code). A credit card issuer would have no way of knowing whether you are purchasing a gift card, a trolley full of groceries, or an item from their Best Buys section (as examples).

For the most part you can but there are a small number of exceptions.
Working at coles and there seems to be an issue with the $100 cards, 3 have failed to activate this morning.
Sometimes that happens. It could just be a bad batch at your store.
Yes. I had 7 in total that failed to activate today across multiple different stores and needed extra time and assistance from senior staff to refund and resolve. Definitely took a lot longer than usual. Hopefully the card makers can sort their system out

I remember the old Woolworths gift card portal stopped accepting these. Is that still the case with the new Everyday Gifting site?
Alternatively, if I wanted to spend these as soon as I get them by converting them to Colsworth gift cards, buying physical Coles/Woolworths gift cards in store is another way, right?
