Bad offer: 10x EDR points on $50 and $100 TCN Eftpos gift cards at Woolworths

Image: Woolworths

Earn 10x Everyday Rewards points on $50 and $100 TCN Eftpos gift cards when you purchase them in-store at Woolworths between 26 Feb and 4 Mar 2025.

This is a terrible offer as it excludes the only card denomination worth buying: the $20-500 variable load TCN Eftpos gift card.

If you buy the $50 and $100 TCN Eftpos gift cards that are included, you’ll lose money every time because of the $5.95 and $6.95 purchase fees:

  • $100 TCN Eftpos gift card ($6.95 fee) earns you 1,000 EDR points worth $5.00
  • $50 TCN Eftpos gift card ($5.95 fee) earns you 500 EDR points worth $2.50

In previous offers on TCN Eftpos gift cards, Woolworths always included the variable load denomination that could be loaded with $500, allowing you to earn 5,000 EDR points (worth $25 or 2,500 Qantas points) for a purchase fee of just $7.95.

As it stands, this offer is worse than useless so you should avoid it at all costs. The purpose of this post is just to warn you of how awful it is.

This year we have seen Woolworths attempt the same thing with both Visa and Mastercard gift cards. Hopefully this final failed experiment will help them see some sense and bring back the variable load cards.

  1. Might be worth it for people who only use AMEX and can’t shop at places like Aldi and Costco?

    1. Truthfully, there are a handful of very specific scenarios where someone could benefit from an offer like this but I still wouldn’t recommend buying them because the more people who do, the less likely they are to bring the variable load cards back. Let their experiment fail.

  2. Hopefully they’ll learn soon as my master plan to earn more points this year is not going well! 🙂

  3. Very annoying! Variable loads were a great source of points – now gift cards are useless to me as I’m not a huge shopper outside of everyday expenses 🙁

  4. 0.59c a point, across two programs if you have the right cards and take advantage of another current offer

  5. Do you think they might have any variable load offers between now and end of March? I am 21k points short of points club plus and need the points by end of March (I should have been more active when variable loads were available). So I might have to buy these…..mmmm

    1. I’d say it’s very likely that we’ll see another 10x points offer on prepaid gift cards at Woolworths by the end of March. I couldn’t tell you if such an offer will include the variable load cards but it might be worth waiting just in case.
