  1. I think paylab offering different deal to different account. I don’t get the offer that you posted, instead I get 6% on coles and woolies gift card.
My paylab is charging $6 for club membership and $8 for premium membership.
    Thank you

    1. Strange. The Category Choice offer doesn’t appear to be targeted as they’re publicly advertising it. Coles and Woolworths gift cards were removed from Paylab months ago and they’re still not showing up in my app so it’s odd that you’re being advertised that offer.

Charging users different amounts for membership does make some sense as they might be trying to determine what works best. I’ll update the article. Thanks.

    2. Hi Chan and Editor, I prefer to answer these chats straight-up to dispel any ambiguous points or statements and it makes us better in the end – customer research. Chan you are with one of our B2B Partners where we can offer some other brands and have a different pricing structure – so thanks for your support. Also, from a pricing strategy we are giving away everything and absorb the merchant fees, we only make money on subscriptions for our new Club and Premium offerings which we fee provides the best value proposition to our members – but there is still a free level and we are looking at new options all the time to support both our B2C and B2B offerings (cross fingers we’ve got some great new cards coming before end of year!).

  2. Thanks for sharing this offer. I’m curious – Paylab usually doesn’t give very strong offers, and I often see better cashback rates elsewhere.

On their own site, Paylab mentions “Higher cashback rewards” as one of the Paylab Club benefits, but it’s not clear how much higher it actually is (or if it’s worth paying).

Does anyone here know if joining Paylab Club actually pays off (i.e. the extra cashback is enough to cover the subscription cost)?

    1. You’d need to buy $137.5 of the Club-discounted gift cards or $187.5 of the Premium discounted gift cards each month to break even on the subscription cost (assuming there’s no other offers you use)

      1. Thanks, that’s a super helpful breakdown. I just wanted to add a small clarification. If we’re comparing Paylab Club or Premium against staying on the free 2% cashback, the actual breakeven spend ends up a bit higher:

$275/month for Club (4% vs 2% cashback with $5.50 cost)
$375/month for Premium (4% vs 2% cashback with $7.50 cost)

This is because the subscription fee needs to be offset by the extra cashback (the 2% difference), not the full 4%. So the breakeven point is when that extra 2% earns back the monthly fee.

I signed up for Premium and some of the rates aren’t bad, although they’re not the sorts of gift cards I am really interested in. For example:

      – Accor Hotels: 8%

      – Amart: 11%

      – Hoyts 10%

      – Luxury Escapes: 8%

      – OPSM: 11%

      – Priceline: 9%

      – Sunglass Hut: 12%

If they could bring back Coles and Woolworths gift cards at 5-6% like they’ve done before that would be fantastic. As it stands I won’t be renewing my membership beyond the month I paid for.

      1. Thanks for the extra info, really appreciate it. None of those are very appealing to me either. At least now I know not to waste money on something I probably wouldn’t use.

As far as I understand, the free trial is only available to new account holders. So if someone already has a free account and has never tried Club or Premium before, they’re no longer eligible for the trial, right?”

  3. Is category choice groceries no longer accept to buy gift card at woolworths. Only work today in buying gift card at coles and Costco now?

    Reply

    1. It should work for some gift cards at Woolworths but not all. For example, you can’t use them to buy prepaid Visa, Mastercard or Eftpos gift cards nor any gift cards issued by Woolworths Group. Most other gift cards (e.g. TCN, Ultimate, Apple, Uber etc) should be fine but these things can always change.

        1. Hi PayLab,
I received response via email. Asked me to upload picture of physical cards used and my account is now unsuspended.

          Reply

    1. Hi Anonymous, we usually only suspend accounts if multiple cards are being used for purchase – otherwise why would we not want a good Customer like you? Reach out via our Customer support and we can take a look if we got it wrong however we ultimately wear the risk!
