Pay no purchase fee (normally $2.95) when you purchase Westfield Eftpos gift cards in-person at Westfield shopping centres.
To be eligible you need to create a free Westfield account and then scan the QR code at the concierge desk.
Westfield Eftpos gift cards can be used almost anywhere physical Eftpos cards are accepted – they’re not just limited to stores located within Westfield shopping centres.
Note that Westfield Eftpos gift cards cannot be used online and they apparently no longer work at Australia Post.
The benefit of a no purchase fee offer like this is that you can use them to more easily meet a credit card minimum spend offer or to get around surcharges and restrictions on Visa, Mastercard or American Express payments (e.g. when shopping at ALDI).
Thanks to J L on OzBargain for spotting this offer.

Can I avoid card surcharge fee using those efpos cards ? I know I can’t use them online. Consider paying in village cinemas or hoyts Using the card, they have card surcharge fee. So if I use them does it avoid the surcharge fee??
And where else it would be beneficial?
If the business surcharges all card payments then these won’t be of any help. However, if they’re like ALDI where Eftpos payments don’t have a surcharge but Visa and Mastercard do then it’s a handy way of getting around those fees. There are also a lot of businesses out there that won’t accept American Express at all.
Are these really usable outside westfields I never knew that… so I could theoretically use it for fuel, at a restaurant, at Maccas etc provided that they accept prepaid eftpos (which I do believe almost everywhere does)
That’s right. You can use them almost anywhere. There are a handful of restrictions, some of which apply to all prepaid Eftpos, Mastercard and Visa gift cards (e.g. ATMs), as well as others that are specific to this gift card (e.g. you can’t use them at Australia Post anymore).
Will buying a gift card in Westfield not count as a cash advance or cash equivalent transaction?
I was told by a friend that Westfield use the merchant category code ‘5999: Miscellaneous and Specialty Retail Store’ when selling gift cards in-person. According to Mastercard, example businesses for this MCC include:
In short, I doubt it would be treated as a cash advance.
Thank you. That’s what I found out but I couldn’t confirm with the bank today as they only have bots to answer
